Ok I finished my vacuum former, just so I could have some progress on this. Here are the pics:

I used:
a drawer that somebody threw out
Some plumbing parts
I found a mini shop vac that had been thrown out
a crapload of 5 minute epoxy

I think its gonna work out pretty well.

Step up regulator?

Post by BENFTW » Sat Jan 16, 2010 2:37 pm

I will have two 6v batteries totaling to 12v to power my screen (which is 12 to 14.4v)

question about batteries:
Don't I need a step up regulator so that the voltage stays at 12v throughout the whole time the batteries are discharging? If so, could somebody tell me what the name of one is?

The n64's 12v side will take around 7v at the least. You don't need a step up. And the 3.3v side will take about 3.02-3.4 depending on you're revision.

Yes, but my screen takes a minimum of 12v, so as the battery runs out, the voltage will decrease, and my screen will not have enough power.. Amirite?

Have you tested your screen at lower voltages?

Yeah, just because it says 12Vdc, that usually means that that's what it's running on, not what the least it can run on is.

And... I tested it with a 9v power supply (the only one I have) and it worked PERFECTLY! So thanks.

New Update!
The day after I posted the reply above, I tore the ribbon cable on my screen, and fried the n64 by putting 9v in the 3v line on accident so... I bought a new screen and N64, and they have both arrived..

Well... My new screen works great and my batteries... Well I hooked them up, everything was going great, and then I accidentally touched the negative and positive together and they burst into flames. Probably going to have to get new batteries now.

just connect your batteries to your charger and the protection circuit will snap back on.
