Dreamcast Power Input Pins?

Post by Klaymator14 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 7:14 am

Since I no longer have my original Dreamcast PSU, I do not know where the 12, 5, and 3.3v inputs, or the grounds. As It was all labeled on my PSU. Does anyone have a diagram for this? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Nevermind I found a diagram, http://portablesofdoom.org/images/dconb ... dagain.gif
Now, when you have to hook it up to ground, can I use just one of the three, do I hook up all grounds together, or do I use each individual ground for each voltage? Sorry, it's just a bit confusing for me as I am just a noob...Thanks in advance again!

You technically don't have to hook up all three. You can just connect one. I'm not sure what benefits there are to having all 3 hooked up or if there are any. Just make sure to use like an 18 gauge wire or something. I wouldn't go to much smaller for power connections.

But 12v, 5v, and 3.3v all have to be hooked up to ground correct? It just doesn't matter to which one as long as it is connected? Thanks for the reply!

I don't know if I understand what exactly you mean. All ground is is 0v. So if you are powering your dreamcast from say a Pico PSU all you need to do is connect the 12v pin to the 12v output of the Pico Psu, 5v to the 5v output, 3.3v to the 3.3v output, and the GND on the Dreamcast to the GND of the Pico Psu. Refer to this diagram to see what you need to do. http://img25.imageshack.us/my.php?image ... iagram.jpg

Ohhhhh, ok, now I understand. Thanks so much! But in the diagram, what are those S's? Or is that a 5? What are those? Thanks for all the help so far! And I hope I don't sound like an idiot from that last question I just asked, :P

Thanks for understanding!

If your talking about on the ATX pinout I believe the S's you are referring to are indeed 5v.

When looking at the dreamcast from the front with the power pins closest to you it goes from left to right:

pin 1: 3.3v
pin 2: 5v
pin 3: G
pin 4: G
pin 5: G
pin 6: 12v

Hey guys! I am back, I finally have the time to build this thing, so I am buying a Gamecube from my friend, and as I know it is possible to power the Dreamcast with the GC PSU, I wanted to know if that is hard to do. Is it all labeled on the board? If it isn't, I may need a diagram... But I don't have much doubt that it will not be printed, but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for all the previous help everybody!
