Dualshock Style N64 Controller

Post by XCVG » Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:47 pm

I was randomly browsing eBay when I found this:

It's for N64, but it has two analog sticks, arranged a la dualshock. It also has two triggers.

I'm seriously thinking about ordering one.

I'm not sure, but we may have seen this before. I think you only use one joystick at a time or something like that.

Yeah, one analog stick at a time.

A cool mod would be to make the other analog stick control the D-Pad

Not really. The C button would be better, as NO games used the dpad at the same time as the analog. How would you hold it?

Modding it to have Analog+C-Stick would be awesome. :D I wonder if they use hall-effect joysticks, though... That may make it a no-go. :(

didn't someone try the analog c-stick thing and it didn't really work out that well? anyways, what should really be done with this, as I probably said last time this controller came up, is modding two N64 controllers into one. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have dual analog options for using two controllers, so it would work. I think you'd have to make each joystick take half of each controllers joystick, though (ex: X axis from controller 1, Y axis from controller 2) because what dual-analog options are available.

Actually, "Goldeneye 007" had the option of using the D-pad and analog stick at the same time; you used your right hand to control the analog stick and your left for the D-pad.

For that matter, though, my favorite control scheme is using two N64 controllers for dual-analog control.

Dont froget Pokemon stadium. theres an ekans mini game where you aim with the dpad and shoot with the analog stick.

Oh yeah!

I love me my pokemon stadium.

Perhaps a switch between dpad/c button control? Woul not be too hard, just switch two grounds.

Yes, 1.2 Solitaire, it's my favorite scheme. It feels the most natural to me because in PC gaming you have your right hand on the mouse and your left on the keyboard.

In any case I think this is a very hackable item. I'd buy one or two if I had the money.

Pay attention to me!

you don't need this controller, you just need two N64 controllers to hack together into one master controller for dual-analog goldeneye and perfect dark.

By cutting off the ground to one or the other, you cause it to stop registering. Basically, you hook both up and have a switch that turns off one or the other.
