Official LOB64 Interface Standard
Moderator:Moderators
Something someone suggested was to connect the controller straight to the 3.3v, and just switch the N64's 3.3v line. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself, really.

I don't know how I DID think of it.

Make a revision to LOB 64?Basement_Modder wrote:What?nevermind1534 wrote:LOB 1.1?Mario wrote:Something someone suggested was to connect the controller straight to the 3.3v, and just switch the N64's 3.3v line. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself, really.

Re: Official LOB64 Interface Standard
Yeah, I should probably change that.
Re: Official LOB64 Interface Standard
Several quick questions to you mario...
What is MGC, the college?
Would this be good for a first time portable? (or too difficult)
And I didn't really understand that whole master slave bit (because i'm stupid)
An extension of the previous question: What is the purpose of the "slave mode"
Forgive my ignorance, i'm new to hardware

Re: Official LOB64 Interface Standard
the "master" one would be running the game, the "slave" would just be used as an additional controller/screen.

Ha! No, no, no - MGC means Midwest Gaming Classic, an annual video game convention in Wisconsin where several benheck.com forum members have met up over the last couple of years.superpapa wrote:What is MGC, the college?

Edit!!!
I think i get it now (i'm ignorant as stated earlier). It is a port to connect portables to each other?

Re: Official LOB64 Interface Standard
Yes. The master portable has the game and is sending video and audio to other portables. The slave portables send out controller signals to the master. It's pretty much like connecting a bunch of TVs to one console.

Well, I keep checking up on this to see if it's been updated, but as far as I know it hasn't.
Is the one in the original post the current design or are there any improvements/edits that have been made?

Re: Official LOB64 Interface Standard
Sorry for the bump, but what about this:
Using a DTDP switch to determine master and slave mode. In master mode, the 3.3v is connected to the system's 3.3v line and the 7.4v is connected to the 12v line. In slave mode, the 3.3v is connected directly to the controller board's 3.3v and the 7.4v is not connected at all. Should save battery life in slave mode then.
Alternatively, I suppose you could use two pressure switches (with foam rubber) on either side of the cart slot to do the same automatically.
Of course, the 7.4v line would need to split to send power to the screen before the M/S switch, or else it there'd be no picture in slave mode!

Eagle: The 12v line draws 110mA when running (it's the sound amp), I think around 80mA when it's not playing sound. You could do that if you like, but the savings are minor, considering you would get around 8 hours alone when running just the screen and controller.

Hey - look what I found! Dual Cat 5 connector 4pk from Electronic Goldmine - it's got soldering pins and everything, and there's a package of 4 for a buck. Hard to beat that!
