N64 Power Question

Post by jleemero » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:13 pm

Quick question about powering the N64.

Now, from what I understand, you need 12 volts, and 3.3 volts.

I've seen now, in 2 differentplaces, that to use the Ti PTH08080xxx (WAS, WAH, etc), you need to use a 2.2k Ohm resistor.
BUT - According to the PTH08080 datasheet, 2.2k Ohms would result in about output of 3.1 volts, not 3.3.
For 3.3, according to the datasheet, you'd need roughly 1.8k Ohms to produce 3.3 volts.

My question is, well, which is it?
While the N64 says 3.3, does the PSU actually output 3.1? Or, what?

Help :?

The 2.2k is probably only listed because it's a common resistor size. 1.8k is not.

Most (except for first-revision boards) will run fine on 3.1v, some won't.

You're better off following the datasheet and wiring some resistors in series if need be.

Difference between WAZ, WAH, and WAS.

What is the difference between the PTH08080 WAZ, WAH, and WAS? Will they all work in for an N64 portable?

Yeah, the difference is just how they mount to a pcb but they are all the same thing.
