Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Yeah, I abandoned mine because I realized I could make one way thinner and I kept loosing parts for it. My future one will be 1" thick to be exact. With internal batteries, and external cart slot.

What if I want to play mario gold linked with my gbc copy of it?

There are lots of reasons, and no N64p is complete without it, IMO. So all previous N64ps fail. :P
That stuff would be nice, but it shouldn't be included in the definition of a PORTABLE. A portable is simply a game console in a case with a built-in screen, controller, and batteries. Having the controller exp. port would be nice, but not required to be a portable.

It'd be like leaving on the exp port on the bottom so you can plug in the N64DD; It'll never happen! :P But I totally had it.

Requirements should be:
Built in Controller
screen
2h batteries
Internal Cart slot
jumper pack
Sound (headphones ok)

External cart slots look terrible.

Out of curiosity have you built a portable?

Internal/external cart slot is purely aesthetic, and does not affect the function of the portable. It can be either. It can include an expansion pack, or a jumper pack; obviously it needs one to function. Also, the batteries should be internal. So now we have this:

Requirements should be:
Built in Controller
Screen
Internal 2h batteries
Jumper pack/Expansion pack
Sound (headphones ok)

do we not care about rumble or memory then? I would hope to be able to save games, at least.

false. I only owned about 10 games and I know Quake, F-Zero, Mario Kart, and South Park needed it. I didn't own Quest 64 but I remember that needed it, as well.

Fact is, you don't need it to enjoy most games. If you want to make a small portable, sometimes you have to make sacrifices

Besides, including things like the memory card should be up to the user. They are a nice add-on, but don't affect the status of it being a portable.

A portable should have, by definition:
A controller
Screen
Console
Batteries

all enclosed in a case. That's really the bare minimum.

EXACTLY MY POINT!

I never said to have a built in memory card, just make the expansion slot there so you DO have a choice. Without the slot, you cannot even have the possibility of stuff like the rumble and memory.

Also, I never said you need that extra stuff to be a portable. I said you need it to be a COMPLETE portable. I mean, look at all the ones that leave out the dpad! Or only have a jumper pack!

And I am only doing this to be argumentative... But according to Master BenHeck, founder of the forums, a portable does not need batteries or a controller to be a portable. I can source the quote if you like. :P

You are right on what it needs to be a portable, but to be a COMPLETE portable, it needs more. It would seen that SS N64p #5 is the only "Complete" N64p so far! All I have to do to win the "Smallest COMPLETE N64p award is beat that....Thing.
