Why is N64 so hard to portabliase?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

You say it breaks easily. How easy?

-Look at it the wrong way easy?
-Set it near carpet easy?
-Touch it easy?
-Solder to it and get a little solder on the PCB?

I might want to try it lol.

I believe it is the voltage, it takes 3.3volts which is annoying to achieve (pth 08080)
Things I need to purchase for my NES Laptop:
1X PSone screen
6X 1.2v 3500mAh sub-C's
1X 1/8'' to RCA stereo Adapater
1X Radioshack repair kit

..yeaaaaah...

It dies pretty easily. Only some N64s die so easily, though. I have killed 4 of them (working on 5 lol) but the first one I was working on had a hard life (dropping, working on carpet, hooked power up backwards, etc) and it was fine after all of that. I can't even remember what finally did it in. However my 4th one was dead within minutes of taking it out of the case and I was grounded and was VERY careful. The 3.3v isn't hard to get, you just have to get a converter and figure out how to hook it up, which I guess can sometimes be a little tricky if you're not sure how. I have been working on and off on my N64 portable for almost 3 YEARS. WOW. I just don't have the time usually. Right now, I've been waiting over a month to receive LEDs I bought from eBay. :? I'm beginning to wonder if I will even get them.

As long as you know that you MIGHT fry your N64 and you are at least a little careful, you should be alright working on one. It's not nearly as bad as it seems to be.

Be careful not to breathe out on it.

I don't think they are that hard to portablize. I only killed two boards and they were from my own stupidity - one from putting too much voltage into the 3v line (ages ago) and the other when I tried the expansion pack relocation and failed (can't boot without jumper/expansion pack). Thought another one died, turned out it didn't.

If you are careful, you are fine.

They are cheap to replace anyway!

Makes sure you get a 96 board. I have been pretty rough with mine yet I haven't destroyed it.

Indeed, they are quite resilient. Use the mobo's from the black N64's rather than the coloured ones as those are more likely to fry.

The 1st rev and 3rd rev boards are the best. The 5th rev (clear colored case) are the crappiest.

I'm on my first board, it's a 3rd rev. (It says on the case somewhere, I can't remember...)
