Just curious, but have you experimented with topcoating it with a thinner blend of ABS? Like, perhaps the consistency of paint? Admittedly, I'm a fan of the matte finish, so as long as I could get it to look consistent, I wouldn't mind too much. How does it compare with a factory-done matte finish?

actually bondo is designed and intended as a filler before paint (on cars, same difference lol) so it is ideal for that application! as to the matte finish it depends on the paint, personally i prefer a satin finish or gloss to matte because i think it looks better in general. matte would probably be fine with a satin clearcoat on it tho

Triton wrote:the air bubble thing is pretty negligable. if your making a frankencase your probably going to be using bondo regardless (if you care about your case not looking like crap that is) so for me its a non issue. in a sealed container acetone will not evaporate so im not sure about a vacuum. it might be intersting to see its potential as a molding material like how people vacuum bag fiberglass things to molds for a high strength lightweight final outcome
Sweet! Insight into awesome case-making!

I'll try the vacuum-forming ABS this summer (which begins in...10 days...w00t). If that fails I'll roll back to the ABS with bondo to fill bubbles. (I like glossy finishes so I expect lots of sanding, lots of layers, and lots of dust :P)

Excellent case!

This great I've been meaning to ask you about the liquid abs.

It is not junk! It is assorted goods with no current use.

well, the case design certainly is clever. I noticed you have two controller ports on the bottom. Will there not be an integrated controller, or are you just leaving the possibility of using an SNES controller for 1st player if you so desire?

make sure you post instructions on how to do this when you're done, because this REALLY looks like an awesome one (and I just happen to have a dead dreamcast controller)

building this case is EXTREEEEEMLY labor intensive, im about 75-80% done with the actual case construction now and it has (not counting really tiny bits to fill gaps and such) 16-18 seperate peices fused together and im not done yet! probably be 22-26 peices total by the time i finish! i probbly have 10+hours construction time in the case at this point lol, i really like the way it is turning out but the ones i will be building en masse will not be as intricate of a design! pictures to come later

are you gonna fill in the trigger holes and the joystick hole ( or mount the d-pad in the joystick hole and cover the d-pad hole)?

trigger holes will have triggers in them! and the joystick hole will have a speaker mounted under it. if anyone has suggestions for a schematic to make an audioamp with a 741 op amp im very interested! mainly because i am lazy and dont want to design it myself  ill probably work on wiring the controller tomorrow and testing an op amp circuit just to see if it will amplify adequatly for my needs

ok, the speaker i can see, but triggers? seems kind of odd for an SNES controller. they aren't gonna have the same range of motion they had for the original DC controller, are they? I'd hope it'd be just a simple click-action.

I was thinking you'd have to keep the huge range of motion on them, but i realized you could probably set it up to simply press a button with limited motion needed, so i retract my thought of it being odd.
