Khaag's SNESp Progress Thread (56k)

Alright, so I've been commissioned by Hedge to build a SNESp. I am using a FC Twin, PSOne screen (unmodded), built-in 7.4V LiPoly 5400 mAH batteries, and relocated cartridge slot.
I have the FC Twin and PSOne screen on order right now, so I don't have any real progress yet. I started this thread mainly to keep Hedge updated on the progress of his SNESp.
For now, I will show you the charger that I am going to build into the portable.

Now for a quick question. On the charger, there is a input for 10V-15V to power the charger. On the other side, there are two ports: one is for a 3-cell 11.1V battery, and the other (the one I will be using) is for a 2-cell 7.4V battery. As you can see the picture below, there are 3 pins in the port. The left is for (+) and the right is for (-). I don't know what the middle pin is for though. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

1. I'm pretty sure the FC Twin is regionfree. Like 90% sure
2. Japan and NTSC were the same, but japanese and NTSC carts could not be played on a PAL SNES, and vice versa. So yes, the snes DID have region lockout

OK, so it was tested with a Japanese Star Ocean and it works. With that out of the way, my question about the charger pinouts still stands.
I have split the controller, but now I'm just waiting for the rest of my parts to arrive before I go any further. I was originally going to use tact switches for the contoller in the fashion that Ben uses in the book. Upon further thought and testing however, I decided that I hate the feel of the tact switch buttons. There's none of that beloved "mushyness" if you know what I mean. So, I cut parts of the controller board apart and am going to use the rubber carbon contacts instead. Then I will just wire those to 2 IC's from NES controllers. It's a brilliant plan! Anyway, I'll update when I get some noteable progress...

Why use two NES IC's? Why not just one SNES IC? Ok, I've soldered 62 wires two times each (once to the cart slot, and once to the FCT mobo) and have successfully relocated it. I'll post pics of the madness later tonight.

Actually... now that I think about it, maybe I shouldn't tie the console/screen together with the Protection IC...
I want a power circuit that will allow me to charge the unit while it is off, and also be able to charge when it is on. Anyone got any ideas or perhaps want to edit my diagram?

On the datasheet for the IC, it says to put charger OR load on P+ and P- and the battery on B+ and B-
I assume that this means that while the unit is charging, it cant be turned on?
