New N64p project: B64!!!

Post by kevipapo » Wed Apr 04, 2007 1:28 pm

I'm new here, and I've decided to make an N64p. Long ago I wanted to make one, and now comes the chance. The B64 is expected to be done by the 4th week of April. I have a good idea of what it's gonna look like. I'll add pics of the sketches later. It uses 8 rechargeable 2100mAH AA batteries, power converter, and a psone screen. BTW this is my first portable.

I hope it works

Seems like your well prepared and you know what your doing. Keep in mind though that n64's tend to fry when you look at them wrong. Or even when you don't look at them!

use 6 or 7 batteries if you're using NiMHs, 8 is a little too much for the screen. And use Cs, they have much better battery life

is this sarcasm?

no offense, but I would try something easier first. the first protable I attempted was a PS1. that fried. than, a Dreamcast, which is just as hard as N64. that is still sitting taken apart in my room.

I reccomend buying bens book and trying a NES portable. :o

Especially since they are AAs, they get sucked dry almost instantly by the N64's never-satisfied power requirements.

I don't know, my first portable was an N64, before I even came here.

I say give it a shot, there's no sense in making a portable you won't play versus one you will (N64).

Use 6 AAs (7.2v), and try to get them 2500mAh (if you're a power mongler). 2500mAh will still only get you about an hour of play (non-LED modded screen) sadly.

Batteries to consider:

Why would he use a battery that has half the voltage you need?

Yeah. This is my first portable, and I know that frying has happened to many other people, but I still have a good spirit. BTW the batteries are actually 2500mAH, not 2100mAH. I'm sure that the screen will run off 8 AA rechargeables, which makes 9.6 volts. And here's a pic to give you the idea of what it will be like:

Image

The game slot, jumper/expansion slot, and memory slot (on the controller) are on the back side, and what looks like an N64 controller is actually an N64 controller, I'm not gonna open it up.

Wish me luck :D

AA's will never be able to supply the ampage needed.

Use c's or sub c's.

the screen uses 7v-9v so use 6-7 batteries. I also suggest landscape style so it won't be too top-heavy, N64ps can get a bit chunky so be prepared for that.

Before you go ahead with this design. Do the following.

Tape a brick to the top of an n64 controller. Try to use it for 1/2 hour. Come back to the forum.
