Lost Sega Systems: SG-1000, SG-1000mkII, SC-3000, SC-3000H

I haven't seen any mention of the pre-Master System Sega systems, so here's a brief description. There was the Sega Game 1000 and its upgraded version, the SG-1000 mark II. There was also a general use computer called the Sega Computer 3000, and an upgraded version called the SC-3000H. The SC-3000s played SG-1000 cartridges as well as several other more advanced applications. The SG-1000 was released in 1983, around 2 years prior to the Master System.

After the SG-1000mkII, the SG-1000mkIII was released, but was apparently a Master System, just with a different name and case. This systems are extremely rare today. The SG-1000 played Sega Cards. I assume they are the same as the Master System's Sega cards, but can someone verify this? The Sg-1000mkIII is backwards compatible with older games for mkI and mkII.

Now, since the mkIII is a Master System, can I play SG-1000 cartridges on a Master System? It would be nice to play these games without actually buying the system, which would cost hundreds of dollars and months or years of searching. Does anyone know about this? Wikipedia, Old Computers, and Computer Closet have a lot of info if you want to learn more.

I don't think any newer Sega consoles are backward compatible with the older sega computers. I do know they are quite rare.

Well someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those Sega consoles were older version of what we know as the Sega Master System. Think something like how Atari made the 2600, then the 5200, then the 7800, then finally the XEGS consoles. All were fundumentally the same they just had things like added ram, slightly enhanced graphics, ect.

SG-1000mkIII = Master System in Japan

I doubt you'd be able to market a console in America or Europe with a name like that. SMS cards are as much I know NOT SG-1000 cards, don't quote or confirm me on that.

Yeah, the SG-1000mkIII is the SMS, and the SG-1000mkIII is backwards compatible with all SG-1000 games, so that should mean that the SMS is compatible. So, by logical reasoning and the reflexive property, SG-1000 games play on SMS. I was wondering if anyone had actually tested this though.
