Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

#Virtua Racing (PAL/UK) - Black screen
#Sonic & Knuckles (PAL/UK) - Black screen
#Sonic & Knuckles (NTSC/JAP) - Black screen
Yeah, but those are UK PAL and Japanese NTSC carts. Mine are US NTSC, if that makes any difference.

To tell the truth, I never really expected Virtua Racing to work. It probably does its rendering either in the cart or the z80 chip and sends the data to the image processor. I'm surprised at Sonic and Knuckles, however. I thought it intercepted the character sprite data and replaced it with its won. :?

In retrospect, Sonic and Knuckles (no matter what version) is probably never going to work.

The cart uses an unusual rom configuration for the lock-on compatibility, which the Radica will not support! :?

Although the only thing that's probably stopping Sonic 3 from working is the lack of support for SRAM...

The only possible way I can think of getting either of these 'newer' Sonic games to work is if you get a PIRATE cart - this will all be on one ROM chip and usually without SRAM...so it 'should' work? :?:

Oh and my JAP MegaCD died again...stoopid model 1 MCD (I checked the fuse that I replaced and it's fine too?)

Still, at least it may be fixable in the future...

Has anyone been able to confirm if Ecco 2's more complex functions work correctly? The message screens when you talk to dolphins (scanline movement), the wiggling water tube effects (Sky Tides), the complex scrolling in the New Machine, etc.?

You can get to the various levels by pausing the game with Ecco turned toward you and hitting A-B-C-B-C-A-C-A-B.

From what I can see the FX in ECCO 2 seem to work fine! :D

I haven't had that much time to playtest to later levels though! :?:

That still only supports 3 button Genesis controllers though. I personally don't understand why people have jumped all over the Genesis portable scene simply because of the Radica. IMO, the Genesis 3 is a MUCH better system to make portable. It supports ALL Genesis/Mega Drive games and 6 button support AND it can be modded for RGB or S-Video. It also has stereo sound. It can also be powered off 5 if you remove the 7805. It can also be modded to play NTSC/PAL or US/JP games. And finally, it's also 2-4 players.

Now the Radica:
-crappy mono sound
-non import playable
-no SRAM support
-no 6 button controller support
-no 2 player support
-no RGB...only crappy composite

and of course the best one to make portable is the CDX, cause you get Sega CD/SMS/and 32X ;)

just my littlel rant on the Radica :P

Joel's compatability

Post by xenepp » Tue Aug 16, 2005 10:53 am

Ok, here's the luck I had with the games I got:

In no particular order:

Mega Bomberman (PAL/UK) - Works
Hook (PAL/UK) - Works
Super Monaco GP (PAL/UK) - Works
Lotus II (PAL/UK) - Works
World Cup Italia '90 (PAL/UK) - Works
Earnest Evans (NTSC/US) - Works
Greendog (PAL/UK) - Works
Greendog (NTSC/US) - Works
Micro Machines (PAL/UK) - Works
T2 : The Arcade Game (PAL/UK) - Works
Flashback (PAL/UK) - Works
Megagames I (PAL/UK) - Works
Alien 3 (PAL/UK) - Works
Mortal Kombat (PAL/UK) - Works

Mortal Kombat 3 (PAL/UK) - Not workie ;)

So all in all, a fantastic compatability list! I could have done a good 50 more if I hadn't ebay'd all my games a few months ago

I got a couple more I'll test but since they're up to >1mb and don't make use of special funtions I guess they'll work fine :D

It's gotta be said, these GOACs work great, it's just a shame the Radica GOACs didn't make use of more memory banks. Oh well, the only games that don't work are better on other consoles anyhow!

Okay, a few points here... :)

1. WOW, this thread is still going...didn't expect that one!

2. @segasonicfan - YES, it DOES support 6 button pads (well, at least it works with both the 6 button pads I own). Also, there is a "Street Fighter 2 CE" version of the Radica that has 2 controllers...if you're really bothered about 2 player support.

3. @PRican25 - maybe when I have the cash... :P

4. @Turbo Tax 1.0 - I have a spare GC drive if you want it...bare in mind that I live in the U.K. though! :?

5. @xriverfalconx - no, I don't have the cart...sorry!

6. @xenepp - thanks for adding to the list! I'll update my main post and give you credit! GOOD WORK! 8)
