adding a cart slot

Post by NESBest » Tue Oct 24, 2006 3:18 pm

hey i got a radica from a flea market in the summer, and i'd like to make a portable out of it sumtime this year, so i figured i might as well start by doing the cartridge connector. im just wondering, if i have to remove the rom chip, i'd prefer not to so i could also use the built in games, neone know where u'd wire a switch or something. also i looked at the diagram for adding a cart slot but its pretty much totally confuzing me, if anyone has pictures of theres or something or ne tips, i'd apreciate it a lot, thanks

This isnt IM so please spell your words out. But anyway you shouldn't need a switch. If there isn't a cart in, it will automatically load the built in games. But if that wouldn't work, you would need to cut off the ground with a switch. As for actually wiring the cart slot, what part in particullar are you having trouble with?

Dude not completly true. Noacs disable games when cartridge is in. But like you said switch inbetween ground should do the trick.

I used to have a powerjoy NOAC and it switched between carts and built in games automaticly, but maybe it is different in this case.

Ya. I meant that it was noacs that switch when games are inserted. That's not the case with radica's.

Actually, this is really tedious work, because it's almost impossible to get on or two legs removed completely from the board. I would remove the whole thing if I were you. If you are a good solderer, then try it, but it didn't work for me.

im having trouble visualizing how each point on the board corresponds with each pin on the cart connector, anyone have pictures? or a simple diagram maybe?

the advice I can give you is to leave the rom on cause when you remove it you will probablly rip some traces on the board, take your time and solder the wires to the solder points on the sides of the rom and by the way when I wired mine up it did work that the cart disabled the rom. hopefully within the next couple of weeks I will be able to put up a how to on this if my bondo ever does right.
