ive taken the chip out of the expansion pack, thought about it, (took a picture of it) put it back in, then soldered the whole pack to the board.

the thing is, you still need the pull-up resistors that are present in the pack on the data bus. so if you just move the chip over, you have the signifigant engineering challenge of somehow adding those teensy little resistors as well. i just used the whole assembled PCB from the pack, and attaced it with wires. its not actually that hard. just watch for shorts.

define a short? excessive solder on one joint or mis-soldering a joint to another?

Ya, putting on too much solder and shorting two things out by glopping them together.

Oh, really? I didn't think anyone actually finished it. Can you send me some pictures? Please? I'm going to do this myself, and I want to see how you've done it. If you can't post some pics, could you describe how you did it? You know, did you have to keep the passives (resistors/caps) on, did you solder the chip in place of the slot connector, or did you just solder ribbon cable to the contacts on the N64 and the contacts on the Expansion Pak board? Me and Tim have been trying to figure out what's up with the passives 'n such... I wish I knew you'd already done it!

Unfortunatley, I sold the N64p I did the relocation to. I had to charge 20 bucks extra because it was that difficult, so, no pictures. I may be able to get it back from him to take some pics.

I just used ribbon cable for the relocation, with hot glue.

thats actually a pretty good temperature

electric rain, the lowdown on the resistors and caps is this:

-there is one resistor on each one of the pins that carry actual data (each pin that is connected directly to the CPU), to bring the line "high". - all the other pins are either power or ground. - for whatever reason, thats how this particular ram operates. it needs those 12 resistors in place
- the capacitors are just standard decouplers, and are not stricly nessecary. they are however reccomended.

somehere on the forums, i posted the same picture twice of what my relocation looked like. its a pretty crap picture, and ill post much better ones when i (hopfully) get a real digital camera soon.

God! Edit!

Ya, the expansion pack is a lot smaller once you take it out of it's case.
