Actually DK is somewhat right.
For some people,like me, there is always a PS1 at a yard sale, or a goodwill, selling for around $3.

Only the early PS1's had dodgy disc drives. Hunt down a later model and they last for years. Had mine since 96 and the disc drive works til this day.
