list of all known Noac's and their compatibility

Post by superben51 » Mon May 21, 2012 10:29 pm

I've made a list of all known Noac's and their compatibility.
Note: Most of these companies also have consoles very close to the ones listed that play more then one kind of game such as the yobo fc twin, which plays both Snes and Nes games.

Castlevania 1/2/3 and Power pak/power pak lite will not work on any of the clones listed.

First off, the good old mega joy/mega joy 2/power player.
Slight hum in the backround
Nes controller is not usable
Some of the sound problems that may occer are Distortion, Increased Tempo, No support for certain effects (IE slide up when Mario jumps), Incorrect Pitch
5v 350 Ma

Second. The Retro entertainment system (RES)
Eliminates video scan lines
Nes controller compatible
5v 200 Ma
Near perfect sound

Third up. The retron 1/2/3
Some sound issuses in select games
Dark composite video
Bright S-video
Controller ports for original systems

Fourth. The retro duo
Compatibility: Final fantasy, Rolling thunder ,The ultimate stuntman, Paperboy and Battle Toads do not work
Super mario RPG only works in some cases
Must use snes controllers for Nes gameplay
Very minor sound distortion
Sound distortion is easily fixed, as well as nes controller compatibility
The nes side will not run without the snes side

Fifth. Yobo FC
Compatibility: Maniac Mansion, RaodBlasters, Werewolf, Xenophobe do not work
3D Worldrunner, Gyromite work in some cases
Some of the sound problems that may occer are Distortion, Increased Tempo, No support for certain effects (IE slide up when Mario jumps), Incorrect Pitch
Compatable with Nes controllers
Sound is distorted in few games such as in SMB

Please feel free to tell me if you have more

Fifth. Yobo FC
Compatibility: Maniac Mansion, RaodBlasters, Werewolf, Xenophobe do not work
3D Worldrunner, Gyromite work in some cases
Early models have bad tempo
Compatable with Nes controllers
Sound is distorted in few games such as in SMB
What do you mean by bad tempo?

The one sound issue I know with the yobo is that the music and effects are all out of key (wrong pitch). Is that what you're referring to?

I gave him that info, he must not have interpreted that correctly.
The Super Joys and early Yobos have a crappy sound chip that cannot handle the 2A03 instructions properly.

This creates a major step down in sound quality. Issues found in all games:
  • The square waves can only handle one duty setting, 12.75%. As a result, the main sounds have more of a twangy sound.
  • The mixing is way off. Most of the time, the noise channel is way too loud.
Some games have had a variety of these problems:
  • Distortion
  • Increased Tempo
  • No support for certain effects (IE slide up when Mario jumps
  • Incorrect Pitch
