Composite Video Problem with Atari 2600

Post by plasmar » Sat May 08, 2004 1:58 pm

I am using Ben's guide to create a portable Atari 2600. I have completed the modifications up to the point of having composite video output (no switches or controllers hooked up yet). On power up, I get good video through the composite output for about one minute, then the screen starts to roll for a few seconds and then I loose video completely (black screen). If I monitor the audio during this time, I get good sound up until the video starts to roll, at which point the audio seems to freeze.

Everything seems to be hooled up correctly. What could be causing these symptoms?

Thanks!

I had the exact same kind of problem when testing. For me it was batteries that were about to die.

Hmmm, I'm not using batteries. I have the board hooked up to a 9V 500mA power supply.

500mA not enough to power the Atari and the monitor?

I am not powering the screen through the power supply. Right now I have the composite out hooked up to a TV for debugging purposes.
