Game Grrl Questions!

Post by ectangelo » Thu Aug 04, 2011 3:23 pm

http://www.ladyada.net/make/gamegrrl/make.html

This is the link to the page i'm gonna be talking about. Anyways, i'm new here, and i'm thinking about making something like a Game Grrl. I'm only 13, and have no electronic experience, but after reading the tutorial on this, most of it makes sense. I just gots me a few questions.
Q1 - For the screen, I'd rather not pay $60 for a discontinued screen, so are there other options that would work for this in about the $40 price range.

Q2 - In the 6th step. What is heatshrink and do I need it?

Q3 - In the 11th step. Is the chip out of the Super Joy controller?

Q4 - When you solder for the buttons, does it matter what one of the little green tracks (dunno what they're called) you put each wire on as long as it connects to the button you want it to?

Q5 - Step 11. Are the elastomers the white things?

Q6 - Is there audio in this?

Q7 - Where is the negative battery terminal and how do I connect the grounds to it?

Those are all the nooby questions I have for now. Help is appreciated!!!!! :o

Yes, I think that should work as the screen. However, I would reccommend this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0413064598
It's a larger screen for a cheaper price! Win! :D

Actually, I decided on making a Namco portable (like the Pacman Mini), and I chose this screen. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/3-5-tft-lc ... -900149796 I even have a case  http://www.serpac.com/172c.aspx picked out. Gotta convince my parents and get the money though. Also, I'm typing this from a hotel in Branson.

That's a great first project to do. It's not too complicated. And overall shouldn't take long to do once you have everything you need

Yeah that's what I thought too. Off topic: I just came from Silver Dollar City.
