Another super joy portable (DONE)

Post by doug104231 » Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:38 pm

hey guys starting a portable useing a superjoy.
I'm gonna try to get it as small as i can. Its gonna be powered off of AAs unless someone can convince me to use an alt battery.

I just removed the superjoys cart slot its a lot harder than it seems gonna wire up the board to see if it survived
:EDIT:
ok so i get a black screen and when i hit reset it does reset into a black screen was there something i missed
:2nd edit:
just got it to turn on but there is yellow lines going vertically on the screen
:3rd edit:
ok got it working there was a short on one of the cart slot pins

Are you powering it off of the batteries now?
If so how many AA are you using?
I was originally trying to power my superjoy with like 2 or 3 AA batteries.
Thats only like 3-4.5 volts.
It would turn on and give me a random color on my tv.
I started powering it with a camcorder battery, 7.4 volts, and now it works perfect hooked up to the tv.
Trying to figure out the wiring before I move forward.

Just make sure it's getting enough juice.

I'm actually useing a psp charger while im testing (have loads of the psp power jacks) it gives 5V @2Amps its working great just soldering wires to every pin right now have been for like 45minutes  anyway im hopeing to run it off of 4 AAs might switch to another battery cause i want it to last longer than a couple hours

:edit:
hey if anyone knows of a 3.5 inch screen that i can run off 5-6volts and can get on ebay that would be great

:edit2:
wow im getting ahead of my self all i have is superjoys and an adapter and i got the thing running with a standard us cart slot attached the list of things i still need are

1-a screen
2-an enclosure
3-a practical battery scheme
4-PUNCH OUT!! :D

Man the size of superjoys are amazing i decided to keep the adapter housing as i will mount it into my case. This will make the cart slot solid and make maintenance easy also it will have the proper space in between the cart slot and the rear wall of the case
:EDIT:
i learned something about the super joy board when given 5v the video in zelda gets artifacts when supplied with 6volts there is none whatsoever it even starts when the batteries drop to 5.7volts after playing for a bit so im gonna use some li-polys with some sort of 6volt regulator i have to have clear video or it will drive me nuts

anyone have a suggestion for li polys and a regulator

:edit:
robbed some li polys out of a portable dvd player battery it consists of 2 3.7volt 3400mah cells i think those will run a screen and a super joy for a nice bit of time heres some pics

Nice. Easiest 72 pin conversion ever. I might use the same method when I build my portable, unless I decide to just keep the 60 pin and only use Famicom carts. Very clever idea. You get that adapter from Stone Age Gamer?

*Edit* Jeeze, sorry about the bump. Didn't even catch the date on this thread

That came out nice. Sounds good and loud. Can you provide some info on the audio circuit you used?
