Construct Power/Reset buttons

Post by TomKStones » Sat Sep 04, 2010 8:38 am

I'll probably be doing a full console mod soon,
& I need an alternative to the original power/reset buttons.

What do I need to construct these?

Just pick up an DPST switch and hook up the power lines. You'll have to flip the switch twice to get reset capability though.

Connect it to the power lines, or the AC in I suppose.
I don't know the board pinouts sorry.

(sorry, can't direct link to the picture.)

Here's the Connection on the NES mobo;

If a frontal picture is required I will take on my self soon-soonish

If you have the original power/reset switch board, you can always just trace the circuit and se which cables goes to which switch (extremely simple on this board), then just de solder the wires that goest to the plug and then put on your own buttons and light.

the power button remembers the position and is of when open and on when closed,
the reset button is a normally open button
and you can reuse the led if you want to stay on the easy mode side when choosing a led, remember that it only lights up when the plus and the minus goes the right way, if not it wont break and you can re-solder it.

I wan't to have a I/O switch, or a toggle switch.

But I could use your method to find out which cable goes where; and to which point on the board.

Here's something I drew up. I had no how to draw it .

So I would just solder points 1+2 to the board?

Yes to have an on button you would just short the brown and the red wire, when their no longer shorted the motherboard turns off, so a two way switch would work fine.

If you want to have a reset button, you just short the yellow and orange wires for a moment, and the motherboard restarts.

What do you mean by "short" I don't get electronics very well...

Couldn't I just use a tact switch for the Reset?

Connecting the points together "shorts" them. A tact switch will work for the reset.
