Atari 6-switch portable?

Exactly.

The 4 switch is preferred because of how easy it is to make the board smaller. With a 6 switch, you need to keep the entire middle portion of the board (which is something like 4.5" by 6" I think.) However, they both have the same hardware inside (justa different layout), so you can figure out what to solder where easily enough.

If this is a Sunnyvale-build "heavy" 6 switch you're planning on modding, please go get a 4 switch off eBay and hack that instead. There's a lot more of those around. ;)

There is lots of 6-switchers around. If thats what you have then use it.

There is lots of 6-switchers around. If thats what you have then use it.
Correction- there's lots of LIGHT sixers around. HEAVY sixers are a lot more rare.

OK, hooked up vid circuit and only got a purple line on the left side. Sync is wired, and ground is hooked up so what could it be? Can I use bens new one if I can't?

I wouldn't say allot more. The local game store here has 6 for sale along with 4 broken ones. I have 3 in my closet. I actually see less light sixers then heavy.
