It kinda looks like a Yobo NES......
Is it?

If you're talking about the handheld that they make...then no, it's not. It's 100% custom, the screen is much bigger (and way better), will have supperior battery life (based on my calculations)...and more importantly, it uses the Retro-bit system for it's insides, which offers far greater compatibility than the yobo.

BUT, it will be a similar size tho.

now for an UPDATE!

Case is nearly finished. Gonna cut out the final holes in the top portion tonight, and from there....the painting shall begin :)

OK BIG UPDATE WITH MANY A PIC! WOOT!

Here's the controller and retro-bit before the merger...
Image

...and after!
Image
...I just hope this doesn't wear off after 30 minutes

Here's my 7805 regulator "stick". Kinda crude, yeah, but it will do the job!
Image

NOW FOR THE CASE STUFF!
The front portion of the case prior to my making the screen hole.
Image

...After the hole...
Image

As for the rear of the case, I decided to carve the cart slot hole in such a shape that would cause the games to fit only one way, to ensure no accidental game misplacing.
Image

Is that a nice fit, or what?
Image

And here's the front...completed!! Took quite a while to file all those shapes down by hand, but it was worth it..they're all very straight and happy :)
Image

And with all that stuff within the completion range...we now begin the painting process.
Image
This is just a test sheet (my first vac-forming attempt sheet!), I won't paint the final parts until after I know how this particular paint will work (so far, it looks like it will work very well :) )

Things are going along nicely now that the parts are pretty much done. It will take a little to paint it all, but save any annoying setbacks (like somehow running out of paint), I should have it all done before the weekend, well before my deadline of the MGC! yay!

Well it's done!

Didn't end up painting it in a nice black color tho....that paint worked for a while, but after a few days, it started to flake off!

So I just got a can of Krylon fusion and rolled with it :)

Some final assembly shots:

I managed to get use out of all the original ground connections on the Retro-bit's power board by using that as my collective ground for everything :)
Image

The first time I glued the screen in...somehow the screen slipped after this tho, and it was off centered, spent a long while doing the tiresome task of removing the hot glue globs (without damaging anything) so I could recenter the screen.
Image

After many hours of serious gluing, ungluing, regluing and what not...I'm left with this...as well as many hot glue & wire-related nightmares to boot
Image

...and a working shot!

Awesome portable! What are those two capacitors for on your 7805, and what is their value?

I'll fix it. It drives me crazy. That said, those pictures are so awesome maybe they are worth repeating :P

I second threedog's question, though. What value and what for?

Holy crap, sorry! I'm not so good with computers. Maybe that's why I like to mess with 30 YEAR OLD VIDEO GAMES! Ehem... Seriously though, my bad. Won't happen again.

However, there's a good chance that I'll be able to shrink it down a little more still....don't know for sure bout that yet tho. Time will tell...Stay tuned!
