If you leave the brick on the outside, you can use it in the car, too (with cigarette lighter)!

Yes, but I am not making a portable. It's just a different case for the NES, so plugging it into a cigarette lighter is rather useless.

So...how do I power the brick after taking it apart?

You might run into a lot of trouble if you are trying to put the brick inside your case. Things like that need to be shielded or kept separate from things like analog audio and video lines, because they can make a lot of noise. (like hum in your audio or squigglies in your picture)

Anyway, i've never really broken open a brick, but I would imagine that you could solder one of those standard AC 2-prong cords to the same place the prongs on the wall-wart go. just be careful, because now you're playing with power! hehe
