Sweet job. What kind of paint did you use? Too bad NES carts had to be so massive.

If you open them up, the ROM chip is fairly small. The cartridges are big so they would resemble cassette tabes instead of game carts, or something like that. You can take that and make a new case for it. Ta-da! Instant more-portable NES games.

EDIT: Spelling.

Ah, I thought it was Krylon Fusion, since thats what I used to paint my PSP and laptop yellow. It was the clearcoat that was different and threw me off, looks nice. I personally liked the look and feel of the Fusion alone, which is why I didn't use clearcoat.

I know that, but then you might as well just buy a PSP or GP2x and emulate the games. We make portable systems, not games!

Expect mine to be done in...many, many years.

Looks nice. Another great portable. That switch for built-in games looks a tad out of place.
Hey, sup?

Yep. The NES was released in the US at the tail end of the video game "crash" of 1983. Nintendo wanted to make the system feel more like an appliance like a VCR than a game system, and so the front loading tilt cartridge system was made.

By the way, what's a "tabe"? :?

Great job on the portable! Except for the color screen and cart slot it looks like it came out of the factory. 8) The screen looks a little off-center, though. You could try moving it up a little, or at least put some black electrical tape on the silver part.

Very nice! Yellow looks great too, a perfect color. Did you run into any trouble while building?

Added you to the list of completed :)

did i say "tabe"?

a little, getting it shut was kind of a pain because I wanted to use both pots. the screen was being a pain for a little while but all the info you provided in the sj3 word document was really helpful :)

As always, excellent job!

I've been wanting to tackle this project for a long while myself. Let's see... I've got the GB, the screen, the cartridge slot, and two fried SJ3's. Grr!

It seems like completed projects come in waves - I just finished my SNESp that I've been working on for forever, and G-force made that awesome Pac-Man PS mod.

Is minwax a brand name? How does it feel compared to just Krylon paint?
