All NES games on YOBO??

Post by c_mon » Sun Jun 24, 2007 9:04 pm

I wonder if all the US NES games work on YOBO clone or not. If there are games that that don't work, does a full list of them exist? I'm thinking of buying one to portablise but I should know about it first. Any help is appreciated.

While the system works with most US games, individuals have reported problems with a few (primarily Castlevania III, Gauntlet, and Mindscape games) due to special in-cartridge hardware being incompatible with the NES-on-a-Chip ASIC.

There are also serious audio reproduction inaccuracies which cause music and sound effects in most games to play incorrectly or not at all. The model of NES-on-a-Chip used in the system provides comparatively inferior audio compared to many other famicom clone systems.

The system also suffers from particularly serious slowdown issues evident in stressful games. These audio and slowdown issues are particularly apparent in games like Kirby's Adventure which feature stressful CPU operations and complex audio.

Id say that even thought the system isnt compatible with every game you should build a portable out of it because all you need is the middle section witch is about 1.5"X4". So you can make it very small

Well, how many games do you think don't work? Is it more than 10?.

On the compatability list for the generation nex, there are 21 games that don't work. The yobo supposedly has slightly better compatability, so there are probably around 15 games that don't work on it.

If you want a small NES with perfect compatability, you can try to find an official toploader. But those tend to run about 75USD, and the motherboard is a lot bigger (same width and slightly taller than a cartridge).

you could in theory recreate the motherboard on perfboard. take out things as expansion port. leave out controller connectors and solder directly to the pins. ect.

Thanks guys. I have one more question: does YOBO need a video amp or is it enough to get composite out of it without any modding?

Moderator: we NEED to have some sort of sticky with this info, people are always asking this question, it would seem every week.
Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!
