How to Prep a NES for a portable:

You need:

Tools: (suggestions also)
Soldering iron
Desoldering Iron
Solder
Needle nose pliers, wire strippers
A dremel
Screwdrivers
Wire and other things

Parts:
1: 2n4401 Transistor
1: 33 Ohm resistor
1: 220 Ohm resistor
1: Possibly a small board to hold the video circuit
1: 7805 If using over 5V
------------------------------------------------------

Directions:
Open the NES' 6 screws in the bottom.
Image

2) Look, There is metal shielding! Gotta get rid of that! Unscrew the metal shielding and the power switch. To remove the metal, you'll need to unplug the power switch cable from the NES motherboard. Thats the Blue connector.
Image

Then take off the bottom plate, and you'll be left with a NES motherboard.
Image

3) REMOVING THE R/F MODULATOR!
This thing is the silver box located at the top left of the NES mobo. (see pic)

There are several ways to remove this. I reolved it by using brute force and almost potentially breaking the NES. Please only do the method I used if you have something to score the edge of where you want to snap it.

Traditional methods involved Desoldering all 5 pins from the motherboard, and the 4 other larger ground pins. My desolering iron couldnt get the big ground pins so well so heres what I did. Basically I pried off the metal cover on the box, and then shorted out all the components so I didnt get shocked. Just touch something metal to both leads of the capicitors, make shure you're holding a handle or something that isint conductive.

Then just go wild. I cut the box into the smallest piece of metal I could until I couldnt get it any smaller. Then score the edges around the box, BEFORE you try prying the box off. If you dont score the edge you might break off too much of the NES mobo in case it snaps.

Of course, If you have something like a heat gun, I figure It shouldn't be too hard to remove the said pins.

NOW ON TO THE VIDEO CIRCUIT!

Be shure to visit the NES portable website made by this guy:
http://nestable.classicgaming.gamespy.c ... tics.shtml

It has loads of info and I'm giving him the credit right now for the schematic that I'm providing.

Basically, hook up the NES in that order, and you're set.

Hey guys, sorry the guide isint done yet, though I have found some useful info in regards to any NOAC's. Sometimes people come up with a problem that their NES controllers will press start when any 3 or 4 buttons are pressed. Do not worry, it is not your start button mis-wired!

On the NES controller, notice how there are some globs where buttons seem to meet and go to other pins. Like say the three buttons merge and become one under the dark green partsof the NES controller PCB. Well Sorry this is hard to explain, but I have fixed mine by breaking the connection between the two wires on the blob closest to the right (near a and b) on the controller. If I find a suitable controller picture, I may be able to explain. Please note that when I did this mod, I was only using the NES controller for its buttons, and not for the data line encoding.

(yes, I am working on 2 NESP's at the same time. The smaller NOAC type will be the best quality one I've made yet, cause today I got some bondo. More info to come)

OK! Be aware this may break the NES controller, as nobody has tested it yet while using the chip. I used the PCB for the buttons only, so this fixed it.

Try cutting along the red line:

You are running the NES controller without the controller chip? How are you driving the controller then?

Those globs are resistive traces BTW, about 30k ohms if I remember right.
So basically you are cutting out that resistor. :)

I lightened it up a bit. It was too dark to see. At least on my monitor.

Anyways, thanks for the pic. If only I had a spare NES controller to test this on to see if it fixes my problem. But alas, I only have the one.
