Xbox 360 Hard Drive Upgrade

Post by jcl3042 » Wed Feb 09, 2011 1:48 pm

Microsoft rips people off with their hard drives. I know it's possible to grab your own on hard drive and install it on your own. Does this mess with your xbox live at all? I wouldn't think it would, but I just wanna double check before I do the upgrade.

IIRC, it will not mess up your xbox live account, because the way how it is created. you essentially make it look to the xbox like it is an actual 360 HDD. problem is, it is a pain in the butt to use your own, and it has to be a certain type. at least, with the fat/old 360 anyways.

Won't work with newest 360 dashboards?
Last I heard, you needed a Seagate Barracuda to replace the one in the 360's HDD enclosures.

I haven't heard it working with Seagate at all. So far the only thing i have seen work is the western digital scorpio and the velocoraper(sp). and even at that it only works for 20, 60, 120, and 250 gigs. how would you do so with a seagate, because from what i heard you literally had to change the firmware of the hdd

you do have a point, HDDHACKR only works with Western Digital drives (at least to my understanding...).
every one of my trade offers comes with respect. just take that into consideration with my most likely appealing offer. :D

one day... my xbox 360 portable WILL HAPPEN!!

I've used HDDHACKR on three hard drives (two 80's and a 250) it's a little bit of a hassle taking your computer apart and configuring a USB drive to boot to DOS, but I definitely saved $100 over buying M$ official, but you CAN just format USB devices to use on the 360 nowadays on drives up to 16GB, why not do that for now?

i actually just saw found a hard drive for mine and did ^ and installed it. 20 gigs was way to small, but 120 is a different story. It was actually really easy, and fairly straight foreword. just follow the instructions, and you should be fine. also, xbl is not effected at all
