Latest Update

Yup. Starting my project. Following in the footsteps of the great Ben Heck...
  • Remove parts from motherboard
  • Flatten caps (If needed)
  • Mod and reattach DVD drive cables
  • Casework (Holes, screws, glue etc)
  • Make new heatsinks
  • Attach new heatsinks
  • Add Fans
  • Take apart LCD
  • Cut LCD Power board
  • Join Power Supplies Together
  • Reattach parts
  • Wire audio/video to LCD
  • Make lid latch
  • Rework ring of light
  • Install speakers
  • Final assembly
I've also started a blog if anyone is interested in it.

Updates! Got the case all cut, and now I need to cut the holes and put it together.Image

Got the heatsinks JB Welded. Once the JB Weld is dry, I'm going to add some heatpipes.

Looks good so far. How was it cutting the copper pipe?

It was ok. Took a little bit of time though. I cut them with a cutting wheel and leather gloves, and they got HOT!!! So I threw them in some ice water :lol: .

We had a similar experience with the metal rods we used for buttons. We ended up clamping them to the tablesaw so the end was poking off with a giant pot of cold water below the end. That way as soon as we had cut all the way through it would fall into the water instead of the ground where it melted anything in its path. Best to stay away from ridiculously hot metals we quickly discovered :lol:
