RROD fix

Post by thewise1 » Mon Dec 07, 2009 7:09 pm

My brother bought an elite on ebay and is got the RROD, so I popped it open ready to replace the x clamp and it turns out that it had already been replaced with bolts. So I took off the bolts. Put some new thermal grease on it and closed it up. And every so often it still freezes or gets the rrod.

The very weird part is that the warranty sticker was still on it. But I'm guessing they used a hair dryer to remove it without using it.

So my question is alternative ways to fix the rrod.

I once had an xbox with RROD that already had been 'fixed' by removing the x-clamps. I simply re-applied the thermal compound and slapped it all back together. It worked for about two weeks and died again. At that point I sold it. The whole, 'replacing x-clamps with the screws' thing isn't really a true fix as far as my experience goes. It just delays the inevitable...

you could heat gun it, or if your kind of cheap you could always google the oven fix.

If you do get it fixed the 12v fan mod helps a lot, but it's REALLY loud.

I'd probably have to get the talismoon then.

how about just having the 360 in a freezer while playing? drill some holes in the side, put the hdmi cable through, and re insulate it

No talismoon fan needed, you don't even need to cut any wires / traces.

just be sure you can handle the noise
It's pretty easy to undo if you don't like it.

I know bout the 12 volt mod. But my brother doesn't want the noise. That's why I said the talismoon.

oh. I think the talismoon is really only better if your running it in nitro mode isn't it? Which is really just a slightly not as loud 12v mode?

Did he buy it recently? Did the auction say that it had been tampered with?

I contacted the guy but he won't message back. I've been trying to get a return seeing as how the console was already modded.

have you heard of the penny trick? You could try that. Search it on youtube if you want to see how to do it.
