touch sensitive volume controller?

Post by Tallon » Thu Aug 27, 2009 10:48 am

Has anyone replaced their volume control with a digital touch slider volume controller like on a laptop, is it possible? I've been wanting to do something like this but can't find a controller like that, maybe I'm using the wrong search keywords.
current project 360p:
2.8" laptop with 17"ws, keyboard and mouse/playstation compatible in games, temp sensors, 6 more usb ports
What I need: a second wifi adapter, case 70% done

search for a membrane potentiometer... thats what your looking for. they vary the voltage running thru them based on where u push... here ya go! http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc ... ts_id=9091" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
expensive tho btw... but u wire it in like a normal volume rotary potentiometer

I know this is kind of a bump (sorry)
Would this work?
Also is that like one button? like if i put my finger on it the volume would go down?
Or if i slide my finger to the right the volume goes up?

Nah, it was already bumped by the spambot. :wtf:

Anyways, it should work considering you are using an analogue sound amp. The one in the PSone screen is digital so it doesn't work quite the same way.

So if i do use that on a psone screen, how would it work?
Im just wondering, would it be the equivalent of one a tact switch?

You would have to convert total resistance (square bar frequency) to digital on/off presses. Which means in essence this would be just like a fancy tact switch because you would lose it's variable function when you dropped analogue.

In other words, not something you would really like to do. Alternatively you can build your own sound amp that requires a variable resistor for volume control, and that way you could simply switch the resistor with this thing.
