Xbox360 Question.
Moderator:Moderators
Im turning my xbox 360 into a Media Center, and i got a little problem.
I opened the xbox, taking all out, motherboard included, but i need to cut plastic on it to put an IPod dock on the top of the case, and i need to fit an 2.5 external drive into the DVD drive, so i need to cut a little inside. So, is this dangerous to melt with a soldering iron the white xbox case plastic and the black plastic inside the dvd drive. I heard there should be toxic gases, but if im doing this outside. Or is there any way to cut this plastic?

you could drill a hole, then use a jigsaw in it.
Burned plastic=bad
I inhale it a lot, and need to stop, thats one reason I have not built anything in a while

If you wear a facemask and do this outside on a windy day, you shouldn't be inhaling any of the fumes. The chances of these fumes causing cancer or having a long-term effect on your health are slim, though, assuming this is a one-time thing. If you're really worried about it, get a heat gun or summat. They're good for melting plastic without burning it.

Get a Dremel or a saw. You'll have much more precision and then you won't have to worry about the fumes.

Re: Xbox360 Question.
Is it... bad to breathe in the fumes from melting plastic? I've been melting apart cases and merging plastic together indoors for months now, and breathing it all in. I'm not gonna die now, am I? Hmmm... this could explain all the odd bumps that I have on my thumbs...

Re: Xbox360 Question.
Yes, it is very bad.
I was doing the melted pen trick to get screws out of a gamecube and breathed in like a mouthfull. mmmm yum.

Re: Xbox360 Question.
You don't get fumes from melting plastic, only burning it. The fumes are toxic, however, and you should still be careful.

Re: Xbox360 Question.
I was using my soldering iron to melt it. There were more fumes than from when I actually solder!
