OMGWTFMATE? (Wii and USB game streaming)

Well now we can stream games off of a USB harddrive/thumbstick. Does anyone know if the Wii requires the disk drive to work?

1) No it doesn't need the DVD drive any more.
2) This is quite old.

Nope, it can't stream GC games, GC uses mIOS when it loads, which locks out the Wii's hardware, including the USB ports. I think some hackers are working on a custom mIOS at the moment.

Also, even though you don't need the DVD drive, you still need the drive board plugged in, otherwise the Wii errors on boot.

Check my Youtube channel for a couple of custom loader videos, I've got ones based on Apple's coverflow stuff in iTunes.

You would think people would care a bit more... :?

I mean, the GC ISO thread has 50something pages, and if they can get this playing GC ISOs, it will be a huge deal for us.

Forum goers here are a bit thrifty, and well the GC costs $20-50 used and fully functional, whereas a Wii costs $110 with button or faceplate damage and around $200 used and fully functional.

True. But, remember, I was speaking of the GC ISO loader that Electric Rain is working on, and last I checked, making them for forum members was going to cost between $80-125. That puts it pretty darn close, but without the addition of wii games. ;)

There were what, two or three people that were actually interested in getting it at that price? Most others seemed interested if, and only if, the price could be brought down. Not really that many people actually participated in that thread, there was just a lot of back and forth between a handful of people, once the price was made clear.

There will probably be a few WiiP made this way, but you probably won't see many until Wii console prices drop.
