After several months, I finally decided to dig out the Jabra BT125 Bluetooth headset that came with my copy of "Warhawk" and set it up. It seems to work okay, but the problem is that whenever I speak into the game ("Team Fortress 2" in this case), I get a dose of heavy lag. I thought the voice message might have just been slowing my connection down, but I don't have a problem when other people are speaking, and as it turns out, just merely having the headset turned on causes lag; as soon as it's turned off, everything's smooth as silk, and it all goes to Hell when I turn it back on. A few of my friends have their Bluetooth headsets set up and working with a similar setup to mine (wireless internet connection, headsets set up through discovery mode), and they had no problems tonight; they never have, either, as far as I can remember.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, did you figure out how to fix it? I'm getting quite frustrated.

How fast and of what type is your Internet connection, and what kind of wireless do you use (802.11a/b/g/n)?

According to Speedtest.net:
As for what type of wireless I'm using... I don't know. How would I find out?

That upload speed is pretty slow and is probably the problem. Friends talking to you gets downloaded, but when you talk it uploads and probably cuts into the bandwidth the game itself is using.

Well, damn... Is there any way I can improve the upload speed?
Of course, what I really don't understand is why just having the headset powered on causes lag...

I can't get a faster ISP... Especially not for the sake of a $20 headset.
Also, the headset shouldn't be sending anything; you have to hold down Triangle for your voice to be heard at all, and I'm not doing that.

I don't know. Try a different headset if you can borrow one from a friend.Twilight Wolf wrote:I can't get a faster ISP... Especially not for the sake of a $20 headset.

Not possible. No friend to borrow a headset from.

As was said, that is quite a slow upload speed and probably the source of your problems.Twilight Wolf wrote:According to Speedtest.net:

For the wireless, it should say on your router what it is.
And since you're wondering why it's always laggy: when it sees you have the headset connected, the game likely tries to reserve a chunk of your bandwidth for use only with voice traffic, since it has fairly fixed requirements. This limits how much bandwidth you have for transferring game data and as such causes lag.

Oh, fascinating. I guess I'm screwed, but it's nice to have an explanation nonetheless.
Sigh... I guess my headset's useless now.

Re: Bluetooth headset causing unbearable lag... [PS3]
Well, yeah, there's that option, but if it's my internet connection that's the issue, as seems likely, then I'm not sure if it'd do any good, and I don't want to risk wasting the money if that's the case.
Besides, the PS3 has spoiled me with everything being wireless; I don't want to go back to wires. It's one of the reasons I've been hesitant to use my PS2 lately.
I appreciate the help, everyone; please keep it coming!
