A new OS on xbox 360

Post by Billt Joe » Sat Jan 31, 2009 10:05 am

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to XP or Linux and have it run like a normal computer. I thinking to take apart the fancy hdd case and place in a new hdd with XP or Linux. I'm not sure if this would work though

any thoughts/suggestions?

Linux might run if someone ported it.

XP won't run natively because it's designed for x86 architecture processors, and the 360 is built around PowerPC hardware. The only way this will run is under an x86 virtual machine on a host OS.

You would need a modchip for sure to do this. Console manufacturerers are jerks- they fill their consoles with lockouts.

You would get Linux or Mac OSX working before XP ever happened.

its possible to run linux on 360 but you need a console manufactured before january of 07 with an exploitable kernal. then you need an original copy of king kong and a patched version to allow you to install linux. you also need a modded disk drive.
