Here is the Xbox 360 laptop that I made as my first project. Everything works fine except the fact that the console overheats in about 3 minutes. I used 9 fans, beefy heatsinks, and copper tubing to disperse the heat. The only thing that I did different than shown in Ben's tutorial (http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/25/how- ... op-part-2/) is that I made the case fully out of plastic instead of using aluminum for the bottom plate. Does anyone know what I could do to solve this heating problem? Thanks
Update: I did some minor tweaking to the fans, and I created some sort of air duct, and I am able to run the console with the top off without overheating at all. If I put the keyboard plate back on, the console overheats in about 10 minutes. I assume I just have insufficient venting in the case. However, I might just go with liquid cooling anyway.

Thanks. I thought about watercooling, but when I looked online, I couldn't really find anything that would fit in the laptop.Skyone wrote:That thing's a beast! Very nice job.
You might want to watercool it.
Thanks again. Would you have any ideas on how to go about doing this? I thought about tin foil, but that doesn't sound like a good idea...vskid wrote:Very nice, almost looks like Ben made it.
You might need to have ducting from the intake vents to the heat sinks to the output vents. Make sure you leave some vents and fans un-ducted, so that the other components can be cooled too.

For better cooling you could try something like this guy did http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php? ... 843&st=180. Just scroll about half-way down

Wow, gorgeous! Great to see other people braving the odds and making something like this.
As for the heating problem, I'd be stressed to say liquid cooling is probably the only solution to such a severe overheat. As others have said, you could try adding some more vents and circulation, but I think that'll only delay the inevitable. Go grab a cheap liquid cooling PC kit and mod it up. It may be a bit of a hassle, but worth it.
