Linux Server Bus Error Meltdown. HELP

Post by Reubensupernerd » Wed Aug 24, 2011 3:12 am

So, due to use of my ubuntu server as a dumping ground for files, my main hard drive (500GB) is now full. When it was filled, the terminal warned me of a bus error. In response to this i attempted to move my files from the 500GB drive to a 2TB drive I also have installed. I couldn't move or delete any files, the terminal claimed that it was a read only file system. I tried to force it but that didn't work. I tried fsck and the terminal warned me that I would cause *SEVERE* file system damage if I continued, so I stopped and rebooted. I've been unable to ssh into my server ever since.
Help me PL0X
Thanks,
Reuben

its become read only because you packed it so full of crap. no space left to write to. boot off a linux live CD and delete some files that way. youll need to use the the terminal to do so, the trash requires writing to disk which you cant do.

the reason it said it would do severe damage is because you tried to FSCK it while it was mounted. when you boot off the live cd, make sure its unmounted before fsck-ing.
