Gigabyte Mother/Mainboard NOT getting any power...

Post by Haunted360 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 12:47 am

Hello. I have had this board for a while and it is an excellent board to make into my new server with a spare dual-core I have.

Problem is, it does not turn on.

Yes, I plug everything properly - so dont tell me about that...

I think its fried. But do you know what part is most likely to be fried and in need or a replacement?

Do they have fuses on-board?

It is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P. Most commonly blown one...

followed by,

Ultradurable 2.

MY ASS it is!

Thanks.

It may sound obvious, but did you try another power supply?

Yes I did. haha.

Any other options? Something must be blown on the board but what goes first??

Does it have any puffy capacitors? (It shouldn't; Ultra Durable boards should have solid state caps.)

Are there any standby lights?

Stupid question: are you sure you're reading the front panel pinout right, and are you sure your power button actually works? (I helped a friend of mine build a PC, and his case had a bad power button so the reset button filled that role.)

Uh, I have actually not given the board a good look over so I will do that now... But no. There are no blown caps. All solid state capping...

On the back of the board, there seems to be next to a screw post, some trace scratches... I can sand them down a bit and see if there 'broken'...

Apart from that everything is OK.

No standby lights show.

And yes. I plug it all in right. I bought the same board as this was for a repair, and that one worked as it was new - so there is something wrong with the board no doubt.

Thanks for the help!

OK no blown caps at all, and the traces were not broken.

I will re-test the board again soon...

When a mobo protects itself from a short, etc... what fuse blows? (or do they just take it and fry)

Thanks.

Nah, its fried for sure.

It just does not want to turn on...

No signs of life from it.

Oh well. Good for spare parts I guess...

Well I looked and there are a lot of them.

Any ones in particular that you think would be blown?

I mean, in a power surge what would go first (of course, it bypassed the PSU)??

Its a lot of trouble to get it working and probably not worth it.

If anyone wants to buy it off of me for like $20 then im all for it. lol.

Nah, I need the processor. lol.

Board only, with faceplate and not original box (anti-static bag included).

Even $15 is ok with me...

Or $10 and I get 3 of those BC-03 / 02 cartridges
