Build a PCI Slot blower fan?

I've got a passively cooled video card (GT 430) and it gets rather hot in my case because of it. I was wondering if it would be possible to build a PCI Slot blower fan like these?

You could, but I'm not sure why you would when the one on Amazon is $6.99. Is there something unique you're trying to accomplish? ("because I can" is always a valid answer on the Benheck forums )

Well, essentially you'd need to make a box somewhat in the shape to fit in a PCI slot. I'd personally use sheet plastic for this, I don't know what's near you but the HobbyTown near me offers sheet plastic of about the right size. I think you had mentioned PCBs. If you're thinking what I think you're thinking, you'll need either a Dremel or a hacksaw to cut the PCBs into the right shapes to make a box. Then as far as the fan goes, I'd use a normal PC fan, maybe 80mm?

Those slot covers are a bit expensive, you wouldn't need a cover like that at all, you could just have a hole.

How many PCI slots were you thinking of using up?

I was assuming molex power since that's what all of those PCI slot coolers use. Tapping into the power available on the PCI slot is potentially the fastest way to fry your motherboard if you don't know what you're doing...

Yeah, I was probably going to mount two 60mm fans if they fit or an 80. (Slim fans) I wouldn't like to use more than two spots max, thats why I say slim fans. I think I might hook the fan(s) up to a controller which will be mounted on my vertical slot or the slot above it.

So use sheet plastic to channel the air? (like a... cover. I can't remember name I'm thinking of.) I could use some scuff pads and spray paint it with some matte black paint.

Half-length extension card (de-facto standard)

This is in fact the practical standard now – the majority of modern PCI cards fit inside this length.

Low-profile (half-height) card

The PCI organization has defined a standard for "low-profile" cards, which basically fit in the following ranges:
• Height: 1.42 inches (36.07 mm) to 2.536 inches (64.41 mm)
• Depth: 4.721 inches (119.91 mm) to 6.6 inches (167.64 mm)

The bracket is also reduced in height, to a standard 3.118 inches (79.2 mm). The smaller bracket will not fit a standard PC case, but will fit in a 2U rack-mount case. Many manufacturers supply both types of bracket (brackets are typically screwed to the card so changing them is not difficult).

These cards may be known by other names such as "slim".

It wasn't a dummy card until my brother fried it. It is low profile with a full length bracket. I want to use a dremel to cut the connections off and use the PCB to mount everything onto.

The Bracket has screws on it so I could take it off and mod it, or just put a different one on?

make sure you destroy all the traces at the pins. we dont want any chances, do we.
but yeah rid of everything. then screw on the fan. cut the metal sheet and make fan holes.

So How do I channel the air and force it out of the back of the case?

The fan will just blow onto the PCB though. Should I put the fan on short risers or something?
