Ubuntu 10.04 won't boot from usb drive

Post by stuntpenguin007 » Fri Jun 18, 2010 7:48 pm

I can't get Ubuntu to boot from a flash drive. I tried making a bootable flash drive with the guide here http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (also where I downloaded my ubuntu iso)

That didn't work when I restarted my computer, so I tried this method http://www.techspot.com/guides/274-run- ... ash-drive/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ubuntu booted from the cd, but it still won't boot from the flash drive. I set my bios to boot from "removable device" first. I'm able to boot dos from a flash drive, so I don't know what's wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks.

edit: oddly enough it boots linux from the flash drive when the hard drive is unplugged. Guess that solves it. 8)

Try the program unetbootin it has options for Linux distros.

If that still doesn't work. You might have to try a different USB drive. Some just don't work for booting OS off of. This is the best site I could find for a list of what flash drives will work for booting.

Let us know how things work out.
