Right now I have a mcp61pm-gm motherboard with an AMD Athlon X2 4400+ processor. I believe it's an AM2 processor. I want to upgrade to an AMD Phenom x4 9750 2.4 Ghz AM2+ Quad Core Processor. So my questions are:
Can an AM2+ processor be put in an AM2 socket? Is there a difference?
Would I need to change any settings to make the upgrade?
I'm running 32 bit Windows Vista, even though I have a 64 bit processor. Since I have free MSDN access through school, and could get the 64 bit version for free, would making the upgrade to a 64 bit OS increase speed at all?

Re: processor upgrade questions
1) Yes, you can put an AM2 processor into an AM2+. Vice versa also.
An AM2+ CPU will perform faster and better than a AM2 CPU, but physically they are identical.
2) You wouldn't need to change any settings. But you may need a new PSU/Power Supply, depending on how many Watts yours is. (A 600W will work fine.)
3) The 64bit archetecture will perform better than the 32bit. There is a list of differences, check google.
