Maybe but the audio from an avi runs fine but the video is choppy, need new and better vid card, it's only when I play a dvd that the sound is low tone

LOL, all joking aside. The sound "issue" may or may not be a driver issue. I used to have an audio card that had a DSP built in for audio effects where you could change the pitch and tone and all that back in like 1996, might wanna play with it and see if those settings exist.
