Playing GBA SP on a original Xbox controller? HELP

Post by Jwag598 » Wed Dec 22, 2010 2:38 am

Basically, I'm trying to do something that's makes it so that an orginal xbox controller (not 360) can control a GBA Sp. I.E, when you push A on the xbox controller, the A button gets pushed on the GBA
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Oh, and this is my first mod, so that I know just about nothing (I can do basic wiring though (recently wired 3 pairs of car speakers together to make on awesome set of speakers) but everything else, nothing)

Last thing. If I peeled off the black stuff over the A button, is the A button still usable?

I have a feeling this is going to be a lot more work then you're willing to put in or can handle, I'd forget about it. Also, you can edit posts, it helps keep things from looking cluttered up.

I am not really familiar with the inner workings of either the SP or the XBOX controller. But if you put some pictures up and explain the ideas you have for making it work, it would help me or others to give some advice.
You might start by looking at some schematics that people have put online of the controller plug to see if you can wire from that instead of inside the controller itself.

Solder the correct points of the xbox controller to the correct points of you GBA SP. If I am incorrect, please correct me. :)

OK what ur gonna wanna do is completely solder over the original buttons on the gba so that they would be recognized as "pressed" if u turned the gba on. you would then 2 wires onto each button leading to the 2 sections on the xbox controller button. i'll edit my post with a pic to make more sense

heres some more detail tho
solder each button to the other, every button has 2 contacts so 1 wire per contact.. each button gets 2 wires...

So you would solder the two wires to the actual buttons? If that's it, then this is really simple!

thats the idea of it, but each wire gets soldered to a different contact. if u want to take a close up pic of the gba board and the xbox controller i could explain better

you should put some battery terminals in the controller, ditch the cord, cut a place out of the controller for the screen, and just make the controller into the console. It's big enough, and the end result would be sick. I would totally do it myself, but I don't have one of those enormus controllers ... Otherwise, I would be all over it.
