Chimera-Boy Advance! (New Question!)

Post by thomasbradley » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:53 pm

Ahh it's been awhile.

Anyways I'm planning on putting a GBA SP into the case of a GBC. To my dismay I've found out that the GBC is a hair thinner (in width) than the SP. So I'm planning on using the back of the SP and the front of the GBC. It's going to look pretty wacky, sort of like the brain children of Porky's Chimera project from Mother 3: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... esnake.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I guess I'll be chronicling my project here. I'll make "mock-ups" later. Feel free to leave suggestions, comments, questions, and concerns.

If you can find a pair of hands steady enough to spilt a hair then yes, it is definitely repairable.

Materials:
  • Acetone
  • swabs
  • toothpicks
  • conductive paste (or solder if you are crazy)
  • silicone
  • tape
Instructions:
  1. secure the ribbon to your worksurface with the tape (or a scrap of glass)
  2. Use the acetone and swabs to remove the plastic around the breaks
  3. with toothpicks bridge the broken sections with conductive paste
  4. with toothpicks scrape off any unintentional bridges between different sections
  5. allow to dry then repeat from 3
  6. after dry coat with silicone to protect the bridges
Or if you are crazy

Materials:
  • super fine wires/ffc of matching pitch
  • sharpend knife
  • solder
  • flux
  • rubbing alcohol
  • silicone
  • tape
Instructions:
  1. secure the ribbon to your worksurface with the tape (or a scrap of glass)
  2. use the super sharp knife to scrape off the insulation around the break
  3. tin FFC with flux
  4. lay the hundreds of wire bridges inplace
  5. boil rubbing alcohol to heated wires to 'boil' and blast any unintentional bridges out
  6. coat with silicone to protect the bridges

It's one of those things. If you have to ask then no you can't fix it.

Buy a semi broken sp off Ebay and swap screens.

Haha I'm new at all of this so I don't know. I think I'm just going to take an SP from one of my friends and take the screen. Thanks!

What would be good to use as a spacer between the plastic buttons and the tacts? The buttons don't quite reach...
