I want to use an SNES controller with my DS Lite...

Post by hackanub » Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:21 pm

So, I'm looking for pinouts for the SNES controller, but I can't find any. I already have a pinout for the DS Lite, so that's not a problem. Can anybody point me in the direction of some pinouts for the SNES controller? I would be extremely grateful.

Basically, I want to do this mod: http://pbowab.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-n ... s-mod.html except switch out the NES controller for an SNES controller.

^ Thank you so freakin' much! ^_^

EDIT - Okay, I have another question... Lets say I can't find my old SNES controller, or maybe it no longer works... Could I use a controller off of ebay, such as these: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-TWO-CONTROLLERS-S ... 43a073cc42" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?

Or, since they're clearly not official Nintendo SNES controllers(even says so in the description), will they not have the same diagram?

And if that is the case, where can I find official SNES controllers? I mean, I'm sure I could find some on ebay, but is there anywhere else that is more reliable?

EDIT TWO: This will be my first mod, so excuse me if my posts are a little on the stupid side, heh.

Yeah, I figured as much.

Hopefully I will be able to find me old SNES controllers and they still work.

EDIT - Seeing as this will be my first mod, I was wondering if I could get any recommendations on a soldering iron? I'm checking Amazon, and I'm seeing all kinds of different ones. Which kind and what size would be the best for my project? Also, I'd really like to not spend more then $40 on it....

Sorry for the double post, guys.

Does this soldering iron look good enough for the job? http://www.amazon.com/Weller-SP23LK-Mar ... 836&sr=1-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

don't misguide him! 15w can even be a little low, typically irons are 25-40 watts. so your link should work fine.

Thanks for the help, guys. I decided to go with a different iron. It can switch between 15w and 30w. I'm now just waiting for some parts to come before I start work on the mod.

use leaded solder (40% lead 60% tin) ..using RoHS compliant solder will drive you insane if your just starting out, especially if you have a low wattage iron :o

Actually a hotter iron can be better as it will actually melt the quickly solder. Aslong as he is not soldering IC chips I would tell him to get a 30-45 Watt iron.

Isn't 40/60 the stuff that solidifies slowly?

the stuff that solidifies slowly contains bismuth, and has a very low melting point. Only difference I've noticed is that solder with 40% lead melts faster, meaning if you have a low-temp iron you won't have to hold it on the board for a million years before it melts the solder
