Why would they not believe you? The fact that LED backlights work proves this would.

Hmm, looks nice. So what's the advantages of EL panel lighting? More even? 'Cuz it certainly looks more green. Still, really cool stuff.

So where are you getting your EL material from? This sounds rather promising, in addition to really cool since you can get EL in lots of different colors.
Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!
