This started out as A broken Arkanoid arcade cabinet I got for free. When I gutted it out I found a bunch of paperwork and schematics detailing everything they did when they converted it from Burger time to Arkanoid years ago. I gutted it out, sanded it, cut off the two humps that were there for the burger time guys hat, painted it, put a new TV in it, built a new 2 player control panel, and put a Retro duo in it. It will play just about any SNES or NES game. The marquee above the screen is only a temporary one until I get the one I ordered from mamemarquees.com It will be the same image, it will just be bigger and look a lot better backlit.
Button configuration for SNES games is as follows.
Bottom Red =B
Top Red = X
Bottom Blue = A
Top Blue = Y
Bottom Yellow = L
Top Yellow = R
Top Small Red Button = Start
Bottom Small Red Button = Select
Button configuration for NES games is as follows.
Top Red = A
Bottom Red = B
Top Small Red Button = Start
Bottom Small Red Button = Select
This was a really fun build and its REALLY fun to play.

Re: Retro Duo Arcade Machine :-)
I thought about it, but the cart slots on the Retro Duo are so crappy to begin with that if i desoldered the crappy ones Id want to use some new ones when I relocated them, and I didnt want to spend any more money than I had to. Also a lot of kids will be playing this, I wouldnt really trust them to take the games in and out without breaking something. If I keep things hidden inside of it no one messes with it without my say so.

Re: Retro Duo Arcade Machine :-)
though I do think it would be cooler if the cart slots were relocated, this is insanely awesome. I might have to hunt down a broken arcade machine and put a genesis in.

I would have used a real Snes and Nes, as I have both of those, but the retro duo takes the same controllers for NES and SNES games, making it much easier.

Re: Retro Duo Arcade Machine :-)
That's a nice idea! It turned out great!
I think you were right to not extend the cart slot myself. The Duo isn't the best of hardware, and even an original SNES or NES does start to glitch when the cart slot gets too far away from the motherboard.
Let us know when the new marquee comes!

Re: Retro Duo Arcade Machine :-)
Thanks for all the comments everyone!! Im toying around with the idea of putting other consoles in it right now. The possibilities are pretty much limitless. I made the control panel velcro in so i can just remove it and build a new one specific to whatever system i put in it. Ideas? Also, If i had used a SNES and and an NES instead of the Duo, I would have had to hook both of them up to some sort of AV switcher, which i would have had to have also bought. This project is pretty low budget. I spent less than 100 bucks on it.

Re: Retro Duo Arcade Machine :-)
if you want to put another system in there, use a genesis. There are a perfect amount of buttons on the arcade to be used with a 6 button controller.

You could make your own Y cables if you wanted to hook up multiple systems if you're not going to be leaving more than one turned on at once.
