How did you make the hole for the display screen? I always have problems creating neat and clean holes! Dremmel works fine to some degree, but never to my satisfaction.

Thanks for even more comments and suggestions! :D

Cool! my creation seems to be on quite a few technical/DIY websites! Hackaday, engadget etc (some of the comments on them are a little harsh though! :P )

Right, replies to people's comments:

nubie:

I used the metal type of toggle switch because at the time, this is the only type of switch i had spare. If i do make more of these to sell i will use a push on/off type switch. Most people seem to not like my use of red push buttons for the d-pad, but trust me I've used these buttons on two other portables and they do just fine.

Homebill:

I got the larger red button from Rapid Electronics at:

bacteria:

Some time in the near future I will eventually build a multi platform plug and play portable like you have.

I did actually play the Dora the explore for a wile. :D The graphics look better than any 16 bit console I know of, but the game play is too childish for me :P.

Gorgonzola

I cut the hole for the screen out with a scroll saw. I cut it as neatly as I could then I placed a see through screen cover over the hole to cover up any untidiness.

Apologies for late posts, at the minute I'm really busy starting a new full time college course and working weekends.

Does anybody know how to open the Pac Man TV game nicely?
I cannot find any screws or hinges. Or do you have to hit it with a hammer?
I got this model:

Can't see your pic; however you will find the screws under the decals on the side of the systems. Press with your finger until you find some recesses - then dig in your screwdriver!

Guess they protect the images against hotlinking :)

I feel little recesses yes, I'll peek into them.

Yup, opened a few of them up! Where you feel recesses, pop your screwdriver in and start turning - they will come out ok - there are 4 or 5 of them on each side as I recall.

Thanks, it worked. 4 screws on each side/corner. Then 2 clips to be removed that hold the bottom and top shell together. Now one last puzzle: how to remove those dirty stickers. The glue is a real pain in the ass.

im pretty sure it from polycase, i was there earlier scrolling through cases and saw one just like it.

BIG QUESTION

I am using a similiar plug and play (ms pacman) and it has a joystick that moves the regula up down left right but it also twists left and right and stops at a certain point for each, as i dont want to use the original controls how would i re create this in my portable? spring loaded potentiometer?

This may be a noobish question... but how did you make the AA batteries Recharge? Did you install a charger? and yes I understand this is a big bump... I did not wanna clutter the forum with a stupid question like this.

We tend not to mind if its a good question.

I assume he wired them like any other batteries, then got an Ni-Mh charger for the voltage they were wired to and soldered a cable to it with a plug for the portable on the end.
Cheers,
