board & screen

Well I've been quit as of late, but I thought I'd give you guys a sneak peak of my current
project. Plus I could use a bit of help if anyone wants to volunteer. I need some help with the
d-pad (as usual for me), not because I don't know how to do it, but because I'm terrible at it. I can't really
pay much, but you'd be part of a cool project. If not that's OK too, I'm just going to use some
ugly spst momentary switches in that case.

Psone's rule!

Screen (led modded)

Good thing I did this test prior to designing my case. It helped me realize that the orientation on this game
wasn't what I was expecting...

Just the boardLook at the size of the board compared to the psone screen. Pretty small for an acrade motherboard.

Wow, thats awesome! Actualy, if you wanted to do a d-pad, here is a suggestion. First, you should go and get an old NES pad or some other gamepad that has a d-pad you like. Then, you replace the old circuit board and the rubber bump-things inside the controller with a new PCB and some tact switches. Then just mold the old controller casing into your new one. Chop and glue, maybe use some bondo to make it look nice around the edge. Once you sand it down and paint it, it will look nice.

Or, you could make this a laptop, and then you could use some real arcade controls! I know that http://akihabarashop.com sells some nice little Seimitsu compact joysticks which might be nice for this project.

quick - update. I think the 7905 is what made the difference. It was weird though, I hooked it up, & then all static was gone. Actually all sound was gone.....

Then I realized It was just waiting for some "Coins", once I added my coin switch & tested it I had glorious sound. Thanks guys!

Wow, jeffslot, great job so far! Lookin' good! :)

Have you thought about how the case will be designed? If so, do share!

Uh, what a mess. Just waiting to be put together.

<a href="http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0735pu8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6354 ... pu8.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

all put toghether appoximately 10 inches, not bad for an arcade game!

<a href="http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0738fa2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4508/img0738fa2.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

not too thick.

<a href="http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0739ep9.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/1743/img0739ep9.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

Yeah, it works (all I have left is some painting)!

MMM, thats a yummy looking portable. What thickness of metal did you use on the outside band? I like the case design, it's looks pretty easy and straightforward. Maybe I will do something similar for my Neo Laptop, or maybe for my portable NES.

I may put another coat of paint on it at some point (and touch up a few missed spots), but finally it's done.

Overall it's perfect, but I think you'll encounter problems with the way you cut the d-pad hole
