3d printer design suggestions

Post by abferm » Fri Sep 07, 2012 12:22 pm

Hello, I have started designing a 3d printer that will be similar to Ben's briefcase design. I am looking for some hints as to what the best methods for drive systems would be. I am looking at all threaded rod at the moment, but when I visualize this in my head the x axis would move slower than if I used a belt. Would it be cheaper to switch to a belt, or would I sacrifice accuracy in the process? I have already ordered motors, heated bed, limit switches, and a ramps kit, and I am looking at the extruder they offer on this page: http://store.qu-bd.com/product.php?id_product=11. The parts I have ordered I ordered now because I would like to design the rest of the project around them.

Like I said I am in the early stages of planning and would like some advice.
