restoring an old ipod photo to support a new hdd??

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

restoring an old ipod photo to support a new hdd??

Post by devileyebrows42 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 7:47 pm

My friend has an old 4th gen 30gb ipod photo which he misses so i told him id do what i can to fix it.

The HDD is busted so it should be a very easy fix but i was thinking that it may be possible to swap the old 30gb hard drive with a modern 160gb hdd which has the same connection type and size, but i wasnt sure because some ipod HDD's are toshiba and some are samsung so i wasn't sure whether or not there was some kind of lock on it. Can somebody confirm that for me?
